Enterprise

The development of local enterprise is key to the economic success of the area, and a pre-requisite for a buoyant labour market.   Our business plan sets out how Rhyl City Strategy seeks to support the development of enterprise by focussing on six key factors:

  1. Developing new enterprise and growing existing companies.
  2. Effective use of social clauses in procurement
  3. Transforming sole traders into employers
  4. Supporting social enterprises
  5. Continued support for test trading
  6. Master planning  for niche economic growth opportunities

In 2009-10, we have provided support for enterprise through our Future Jobs Fund programme, which has created 322 additional jobs for local businesses, social enterprises and voluntary organisations. Our new Fit for Work Service is providing support for small to medium enterprises to tackle staff sickness.  We are continuing to work with employers to develop short skills-based training programmes to develop the local skill base to meet recruitment needs.   We continue to provide a Test Trading scheme in partnership with Denbighshire Enterprise Agency and Jobcentre Plus (see below).  And we have worked with the Welsh Assembly Government and Denbighshire County Council to ensure the effective use of social inclusion clauses in procurement, and are now developing processes to turn these opportunities into jobs.
