RHYL CITY
STRATEGY is part of a new approach to tackling unemployment
and economic inactivity. Many areas of the seaside town of
Rhyl, in particular Rhyl West and South West, suffer from high
levels of unemployment compared with the UK and Wales
average. Many people have low or no qualifications or
skills needed to take up work opportunities, or have other problems
that impact on their ability to work, such as poor housing or
health conditions.
|
The RHYL CITY STRATEGY Consortium brings together organisations
in the business, statutory and voluntary sectors to tackle these
issues through more effective coordination of services, through
pooling resources, and through innovation and fresh
thinking.
Through partnership
working, we aim
to:
●make sure Rhyl residents are receiving the
support, guidance and
training they need to get into and stay in work
●make sure residents can overcome any barriers
preventing them
from starting or getting back to work.
●work with employers to make sure their
business needs are being
met, and that local unemployed people are able to access
work
opportunities
●develop cross-cutting initiatives to meet
identified needs

RHYL CITY STRATEGY is part of a Department of Work and Pensions
initiative to tackle worklessness in our most disadvantaged
communities – many of which are in major cities and other urban
areas. The Strategy is based on the idea that local partners
can deliver more if they combine and align their efforts behind
shared priorities, and are given more freedom to try out new ideas
and to tailor services in response to local need.
A total of 15 City Strategy Pathfinders received initial
seedcorn funding up to April 2009. In June 2008, Secretary of
State for the Dept of Work and Pensions, Rt Hon James Purnell MP
announced that the 15 Pathfinders would receive an extension of
funding to March 2011. Read More...
