Skills for Work
Rhyl City Strategy has developed a range of programmes and services that enhance local provision to help people find, enter and sustain employment. The programmes have been developed in consultation with our partners, and are designed to meet local need. Funding for the programmes comes from the Department of Work and Pensions, the Welsh Assembly Government, and the Department of Health.
Our current programmes are:
Future Jobs Fund
Rhyl City Strategy’s Future Jobs Fund scheme is a Department for Work and Pensions programme to create employment opportunities for long term unemployed young people and others who face significant disadvantage in the labour market. The scheme offers young people a full-time job for 26 weeks, during which time they earn a wage, develop new skills, attend training, gain qualifications and significantly increase their prospects of finding permanent employment.
Fit for Work Service
Rhyl City Strategy’s new Fit for Work Service provides free and confidential support to help people with health problems get back to work earlier than they otherwise would. The Service is part of a national Programme of Piloting jointly sponsored by the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department of Health.
Careers Ladder
Our Careers Ladder programme aims to engage individuals furthest from the labour market in the learning agenda, and to help them improve their skills and employability. It offers a broad range of engagement and learning opportunities, and is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Department of Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, with additional funding support from the Department for Work and Pensions.
Basic Skills
We have worked with the Basic Skills Unit of the Welsh Assembly Government and other partners to develop new provision for helping people improve their basic skills.
Enterprise
Rhyl City Strategy is providing support for the development of the social enterprise sector in Rhyl. We are also supporting local enterprise through our Enterprise Rehearsal programme: Test Trading, in partnership with Denbighshire Enterprise Agency and Jobcentre Plus.
Training Restaurant
Rhyl City Strategy is currently working with partners to develop a training restaurant/cafe in a prime location in Rhyl that will be a destination venue for locals and tourists, as well as providing structured employment training routeways for unemployed and economically inactive individuals.
